About My Work
About My Work
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and a National Certified Counselor. My undergraduate degree is in Sociology from the University of Georgia. I have Masters and Educational Specialist degrees in Community Counseling Psychology from James Madison University.
With over 20 years of experience as a psychotherapist, I have seen the difference that therapy can make in the lives of individuals and their families. I provide therapy in a peaceful and welcoming environment, where the client is respected and yet challenged to work toward their goals.
I have worked in a variety of settings including community mental health agencies, schools, private practices, and churches. These experiences helped me understand how to help children, adolescents, and adults when they are confronted with family, school, community, relationship, and work challenges.
As the mother of 6 children, I bring a unique experience and understanding of the concerns of families. Balancing the needs of a family in Northern Virginia can be a challenge. I especially enjoy helping families work on meeting the needs of spouses and children by supporting their growth and creating healthy, lasting relationships.
Psychotherapy can be life-changing. It is a partnership where we work together to achieve the client's goals of healing and wholeness. Hope, perseverance, wisdom, spirituality, courage, creativity and meaning are important to happiness (Seligman, Czikszentmihalyi, 2000). Focusing on the client's gifts and virtues are an important part of the psychotherapy that I provide. The client can bring their faith to counseling and will find it encouraged and respected.
